Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus opened in Kuching in 2000. It is a partnership between Swinburne Australia and the Sarawak government via Yayasan Sarawak and Sarawak Higher Education Foundation. The campus is part of a long term strategy by Swinburne Australia to globalise its operations and provide its students with international living, working and learning opportunities. The Swinburne Sarawak campus offers programs in commerce/business, engineering, science, ICT and design that are identical to those offered by its home campus in Melbourne. Programs range from foundation to postgraduate levels.

The Sarawak campus aims to be research intensive and has technologically advanced engineering and science research facilities. It is continuously engaged in research projects with the public and private sectors while its industry consultancy projects keep staff members up-to-date with industry development.

Academic Positions


ENGINEERING, ICT, AND SCIENCE

Applications are invited for academic positions at Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer levels to take up teaching and research roles in Civil Engineering, Telecommunication and Network Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Engineering Mathematics. Candidate with relevant industrial experience and / or a Professional Engineer status (PEng, CEng or CPEng) or working towards the qualification is desirable and is an added advantage.
For Civil Engineering, teaching and research experience in Road/Traffic/Environmental is highly desired.
For Mechanical Engineering, teaching and research experience in fluid mechanics, control engineering, dynamics, and / or thermodynamics is highly desired.
For Telecommunication and Network Engineering, teaching and research experience in Wireless Communication, Communication Information Theory, Electronics and Telecommunication Systems, Wireless Sensor Network and Digital Electronic Design is highly desired.
For Chemical Engineering, candidates with good teaching and research experience in the following areas are highly desired:
  • Fluid and Particle Processes, Process Control and Measurement and Process Modelling (to start in August 2014)

COMMERCE / BUSINESS

Senior Lecturer/Lecturer

Applications are invited for academic positions at Senior Lecturer/ Lecturer level to take up teaching and research roles in Marketing and Human Resource Management disciplines. Candidates will need to demonstrate outstanding skills, knowledge and expertise in teaching undergraduate, post-graduate and post-experience levels and research publication records in high-impact peer-reviewed academic journals.
For the Marketing position, candidates with teaching and research experience in candidates with teaching and research experience in forecasting and market knowledge, differentiation and positioning, new market entries, marketing research methods and marketing strategy are preferred.
For the Human Resource Management position, candidates with teaching, research and post-experience qualifications in developing and implementing strategies for sustaining ethical behaviours and in managing the public sector workforce are preferred. A Ph.D. in Human Resource Management or a professional doctorate in a management related discipline is essential.
Successful candidates will be expected to develop, teach and administer undergraduate and postgraduate units of study in the Faculty of Business and Design in the respective academic disciplines.
For senior lecturer positions, the successful candidate shall provide academic leadership in business research and teaching, including a proven ability to lead, manage, mentor and develop staff.  In addition, the candidate will be expected to supervise higher degree research students as required, participate in the administration of the Faculty and participate in and contribute to the collegial and intellectual life of the Faculty of Business and Design, and the Sarawak campus.

  • Ph.D. degree in a Business and Management discipline or equivalent;
  • Demonstrated track record in outstanding teaching achievements and contributions to the student learning experience;
  • A strong research publication record;
  • Capability to undertake effective supervision of higher degree research students.

Research Positions


Research Associate – Geopolymer Technology (Position Description)

Contract Period: Minimum 2 years

The candidate is required to independently undertake research at the highest level to develop geopolymer technology using local industry by-products such as fly-ash and slag to produce ‘green’ construction-based materials. The main aim of the project is to evaluate the mechanical properties of locally-produced geopolymer against fire resistance, acid resistance, strength capability, workability and durability, amongst others. The ability to provide in-depth understanding and in-sights into the mechanical properties of geopolymer can effectively enhance the practice of sustainable technology thus, minimising the impact on the environment.    
The candidate is expected to fulfil the following requirements:
  • A Master degree in the field of Geopolymer Technology from a Malaysian or recognised overseas university. Candidates with Master degree in related area of research are encouraged to apply.
  • A good Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Materials Engineering.
  • A strong and keen interest in Geopolymer research.

Research Associate – Applied Agricultural Biotechnology (Position Description)

Contract Period: Minimum 2 years

The candidate is expected to undertake research in the area of applied biotechnology for the local agriculture related industries such as plantations, food production and processing, aquacultures, etc. The key responsibility is to transfer basic science knowledge into applied solutions that can be beneficial to the local agriculture industry. The project emphasises sustainable farming, which includes but not limited to screening of potential agriculture risks, biological pests control, carbon and nutrients cycles, agriculture waste solution, increase of productivity and yield, added-value solutions to crops and environmental impact assessments.  
The candidate is expected to fulfil the following requirements:
  • A Master degree in the field of biotechnology (preferably agriculture) from a Malaysian or recognised overseas university.
  • A good Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology with strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology and analytical chemistry.
  • Good laboratory skills and able to operate and maintain laboratory-grade analyzers and high-end instrumentation.

Research Associate – Soft Soil Engineering (Position Description

Contract Period: Minimum 2 years

The candidate is required to independently undertake research at the highest level in advanced soil mechanics. He/She is required to perform laboratory-based soft soil testing using high-end laboratory equipment such as anisotropic cyclic triaxial stress path, direct & residue shear and large-diameter Rowe-Barden consolidation cell. The main aim of the project is to evaluate the microfabric effects of local soft soils on stress-strain and mechanical behaviour. The candidate must also be well-versed with the concept of critical state soil behaviour.  
The candidate is expected to fulfil the following requirements:
  • A Master degree in the field of laboratory-based soft soil engineering from a Malaysian or recognised overseas university.
  • A good Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Materials Engineering
  • A strong and keen interest in soft soil research

Exam Invigilator (Position Description)
