Downstream Director - Washington DC or Houston, TX

PFC Energy, a global research and consulting firm specializing in the oil and gas sector, seeks an experienced and qualified individual to join its Downstream practice at a director level. 
Responsibilities:
  • Provide subject matter leadership for a global team of approximately 40 analysts and consultants serving a client base made of leading global integrated oil companies, National Oil Companies, and specialty refiners and marketers. Guide modeling, forward-looking analysis, and technical foundation of consulting projects and subscription services
  • Carry out business development activities and manage client relationships, primarily in the Americas. Manage and advance leads and opportunities and provide support to conduct BD activities by others as a downstream practitioner and refining subject matter expert
  • Prepare/develop compelling consulting proposals, including designing of project approaches, scoping and estimating effort levels
  • Manage and/or contribute to the design and execution of consulting projects in the downstream & petrochemicals sector
  • Guide analysis of the downstream & petrochemicals industry including market trends, the competitive environment and the strategy and competitive position of major industry players
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary PFC Energy teams to produce market forecasts, integrated scenarios and other joint products. Also contribute to the development of the firm’s or group’s collective go-to-market views
  • Contribute to developing and improving the group’s capabilities and service offerings to broaden client base and enhance work product quality and delivery efficiency
  • Manage a group of about 5-6 professionals
  • Work closely with other senior members of the downstream practice to manage and grow the practice and deliver strong financial results
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, or equivalent. MBA an added advantage
  • Significant working experience in the refining industry, with involvement in consulting and/or business development activities
  • Direct knowledge of marketing, midstream, petrochemicals and/or lubricants a plus
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills
  • Able to mentor and train junior staff and approach work in a collaborative manner
  • Able to work in teams across offices and with members in other practices in a cooperative and efficient manner
  • Required skill(s): Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel for business on a semi-regular basis in North and South Americas, Europe and Asia
  • Able to work in a multicultural setting
  • Able to work and contribute in a fluid, at times unstructured setting and willingness to deal with ambiguity
  • Analytical, quantitative, and able to see the big picture and draw conclusions by synthesizing and digesting large sets of data
  • Adaptable to different work environments. Experience working outside the U.S. is a must

  • Required language(s): English (Outstanding writing skills in international business English). Portuguese, Arabic and/or Mandarin is a plus (for reading research resources and basic oral/written business communication)

Intern, Downstream Africa  Paris

PFC Energy’s Downstream Group is now seeking an intern for its Paris operations: six months, full-time, with potential for progression to a permanent position as analyst. Approximate starting date :  End-January / Beginning-February 2013
French Convention de Stage required 
Responsibilities include:
  • Gathering, interpreting and processing information on the downstream industry in African countries
  • Providing research and production support for both subscription and consulting projects
Relevant training on the oil industry value chain will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate student to pursue professional growth as a supporting member in an established firm. Potential for progressing to a permanent position as analyst following successful completion of the internship.

Successful candidate will have:
  • Excellent research and writing skills in English, as well as very strong quantitative and analytical skills and a sharp eye for detail
  • Previous professional experience in producing written analysis for publication would be a strong advantage
  • Background or experience, and interest in Africa
  • Native-level proficiency in English is essential. French is not required, but additional languages would be an asset

Downstream Manager, Washington DC or Houston TX


PFC Energy, an international consultancy of strategic advisors in global energy, is seeking an manager for its downstream practice. This position will play an important role in maintaining and developing downstream models and subscription services. The analyst will also be asked to assist on a variety of analysis including consulting engagements as needed. The ideal candidate is a results-oriented professional with consulting experience and/or operational experience in the refining and marketing sector. The position is based in Washington, DC or Houston, TX.

Responsibilities: 
  • Lead and manage a small team of analysts/consultants
  • Manage PFC Energy’s Refinery Monitoring Service (RMS) and Refinery Rationalization Study
  • Maintain and develop various refining models and databases
  • Contribute to business development and client relationship management, primarily in the Americas, including proposal development
  • Manage or contribute to delivering consulting projects and deliverables
  • Analyze financial and operational performance and communicate strategy and competitive position of companies
  • Assist clients with identifying core strengths, key assets, risks, strategy development
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of working experience in downstream oil-related field
  • MBA or masters degree a plus
  • Ability to conceptualize and develop new ideas and articulate issues
  • Strong analytical and modeling skills
  • Deadline and results oriented
  • Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Power Point skills 
  • Willingness to travel for business on a semi-regular basis
